What Is Gum Disease Treatment?
Gum disease is often easily treatable in its early stages, but once it starts to progress, a more advanced approach is usually needed to stop the infection and allow the gums to heal. From deep cleanings for gingivitis to focused laser therapy for periodontitis, La Jolla Dental Wellness Center provides a wide variety of gum disease treatments for patients across La Jolla, CA, each one designed to address infection while minimizing disruption to surrounding tissues. Every treatment plan is carefully tailored to each patient's needs and comfort level, providing a comfortable, personalized dental experience. Don't wait for gum disease to progress before doing something about it — schedule a dental exam with our team today to learn if you might benefit from our state-of-the-art gum disease treatments.
How Are Gum Disease Treatments Performed?
We'll start with a thorough periodontal checkup, examining your gums for signs of infection and measuring pockets around your teeth, where bacteria tend to accumulate. The early stages of gum disease (gingivitis) are often manageable with deep cleanings and regular maintenance to reduce inflammation and remove bacterial buildup. If it's progressed further (periodontitis), we might recommend laser gum therapy using our cutting-edge LANAP® (Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure), which is designed to target infected tissue and bacteria without the need for incisions. In addition to getting rid of bacteria, the laser encourages blood clots to help seal off the area, creating a healthier environment for the gums to reattach. Compared to traditional gum surgery, laser gum therapy is often more comfortable and results in a faster recovery time, allowing you to get back to your routine within days instead of weeks.
What Are the Benefits of Gum Disease Treatment?
Left untreated, gum disease can lead to gum recession, loose teeth, and eventually tooth loss. It's also been linked to cardiovascular disease, respiratory infection, and other systemic health problems. At La Jolla Dental Wellness Center, we take a whole-body approach to gum disease treatment, providing benefits for our patients that include:
- Reduces harmful bacteria beneath the gumline
- Treats infected gum tissue while preserving healthy tissue
- Supports natural healing of the gums and surrounding structures
- Minimizes discomfort compared to traditional surgical approaches
- Encourages healthier attachment of the gums around the teeth
- Helps protect the long-term stability of the teeth
La Jolla Dental Wellness Center Reviews
Always a great experience! I moved to sd recently and been having a hard time finding a good dentist. Everyone at this center is super nice and really takes the time to listen to every concern I have. I would recommend to anyone looking for an amazing dentist and team!
A medical office of excellence, where all personnel are kind as well as competent. That helped make an oral surgery experience, as pleasant as possible.
amazing staff, great place, thank you for helping me with my teeth! Dr. Kim, Cathy, and Crystal all great! Dr. Kim really listened and helped me become confident about the recommendations she was making for my teeth and I'm happy with the results.
As someone who has always struggled with anxiety at the dentist, the staff here has always put me at ease taking care of my teeth. Dr. Kim is very thorough and explains what she is doing step by step to ensure the integrity of my teeth, rather than proposing the most invasive procedure from the get-go. Crystal, the hygienist, is very meticulous during my cleanings and always offers good dental advice. Cathy, at the front desk, is extremely helpful dealing with insurance, very responsive when it comes to scheduling, and always greets you with her warm presence and a smile. I cannot recommend this dental office enough!! Another perk is that there is plenty of parking and they validate your parking ticket for you!
The best experience I have ever had the people are extremely friendly make you feel welcomed they are very careful with you and the procedure is quick and effective best in the industry100% recommend
